New Paint Colors

Hi All!

Welcome back to reality!  It was Spring Break in our neck of the woods.  For the few of us who remained in town, it was anything but spring.  In fact, we played soccer on Saturday in snow!
Oh Mother Nature, can we please get a break?

We may have taken a small break from blogging last week, but we are back at it this week!

We are excited to have two new Maison Blanche Antique Furniture Paint colors!  That brings us to 38 colors!  Oh my.

The Rustic Duchess shared a great photo featuring IVORY and OYSTER.  We have both in the shoppe and samples to demo the difference.

So many whites and creamy options available in our palette.

Even if the weather isn't cooperating, we can paint spring!

Glad to be back!

Have a great Monday.

Spring Dresser

Spring has arrived!

I know we are all ready for some nice sunshine and warmth!  I hope Mother Nature got the memo.

We ignored the calendar this month and filled the shoppe with spring colors, light painted furniture and yummy smelling spring scents.

We are ready!

Here is one of our latest additions.

It has a very slight ombre effect!

Using Maison Blanche Paint in Chloe, I added Maison White in 3-different amounts and went light to dark.  The bottom drawer is straight Chloe.
Make sense?

Old Barn Wood Table Redo

Today I have a quick before & after project that I am super excited about!

When I picked up the table, it was warped and the top was in pretty bad shape.  Hubby removed the top wood.

I used a few different colors of paint to achieve a time worn look.

I distressed it and finished it with Maison Blanche Dark Antique Wax.

Hubby pulled a piece of old barn wood from our stash and cut the new top.

The raw wood received a coat of Dark Wax as well.

This is in the store!  It was hard for us to let it go - it's unique and fun.

OPEN Today - Saturday
11:00 - 4:00.
Would love to see ya!

More Change

Hi All,
I missed you yesterday and am afraid I will be missing a bit more over the next few weeks.
All is good in the world, I am just a bit overwhelmed.

We made some changes March 1, and I am trying to manage my family, all shoppe hours and everything that goes in to stocking the store.  I have been very blessed and the shoppe has been picked pretty bare the last few weeks, so I have been painting, picking and crafting pretty crazily!

I am loving every minute of it, but I am trying to manage my time a bit better.
Something I have never excelled at!

Anyway, I am popping in today to share more updates of the shoppe.
I have even more changes coming today!

Change is good!

I am loving this antique crib.  It's a pretty yellow (as found) and would make the most beautiful daybed.  Filled with pillows (most have sold), it's perfect for a porch, bedroom or reading nook.

I have added color throughout the shoppe.  Perhaps it's my effort to hurry springs arrival.

I will be hauling some more goodies to the shoppe today and preparing for open hours this week!

Wednesday-Saturday
11:00 - 4:00

See you this week!

Details of Dark Wax

This week I have been sharing details on waxing your furniture pieces.
Today we continue with Dark Waxes.

I shared the power of Antique Wax, you can see the post here.

I've made peace with dark wax and I strongly encourage you to try it!  Based on your emails, you want to but haven't taken the plunge yet.

WAX

When painting furniture with a chalk paint (or flat), a top coat is needed to protect the finish.  Before I switched to wax many years ago, I used a water based poly.  Poly is more difficult to work with in my opinion.

COLORS

There are several colors available.  A clear wax is a must have.
This provides the finish without any color.

Color is what really transforms a piece of furniture.  It gives the old world feel, vintage look and/or changes the color - depending on what your goal is.

Different tinted/colored waxes are available too.
These are Lime Waxes - available in White, Gray & Black.

I've tried a lot of waxes and am completely loving Maison Blanche.  It is the smoothest and the easiest to work with - hands down.

It goes on with a brush or a clean, lint free cloth.  I use old t-shirts, sheets or rags.  I reach for my brush when I want to get into the grooves of a piece.

Before I discovered this wax, I would mix clear and dark waxes to achieve a similar look.  Unfortunately, some days I would go heavy on the dark or the light and the consistency was not there.
At times I would use a heat gun to bring my wax to a near liquid consistency.  This helps it go on easier.  However, heat it too long and you have a fire.  Thankfully, I did not!
With Maison Blanche, I just open the can and go!

This is what the company says about the Antique Wax:

Maison Blanche Paint Company's Antique Wax is a premium formulation that has been manufactured from an old Dutch recipe for over 100 years. Well known for it's quality, this finishing wax is used to give special protection to pieces painted with Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint. Apply on top of our Furniture Paint to seal and protect your project, augmenting the natural beauty of your piece by enhancing the patina and enriching the texture. Antique Wax creates a lustrous finish as well as provides an additional vehicle for embellishment.

To Use: Antique wax is almost effortless to apply. It glides on easily and melts into your painted surface. It is a penetrating wax that soaks into your Maison Blanche Furniture Paint painted surface to strengthen and beautify. No fancy tools or expensive brushes needed to apply Antique wax. To obtain a natural shine, apply thinly with a chip brush, furniture staining pad, or soft cloth. Let dry about 15-45 minutes before polishing with a soft cloth. Follow with a second coat if desired. Close tin well after use.

NO need to apply Clear Antique Wax prior to applying Dark Brown Antique Wax!

Maison Blanche Antique Wax is available in 3 shades:

Clear
Light Brown
Dark Brown

I fell in love the first time I used this wax and have told anyone that will listen, how much it has changed my methods.  It saves me time, money and cleans up with soap and water.

I'm giddy with my new products and have been painting and waxing everything.

We stock: Clear, Light Brown, Dark Brown waxes.
We have all the Lime Waxes: white, gray & black.

We ship too!

Antique Wax

When I first started finishing furniture with wax, I stayed with clear.

Honestly, I loved the look of the dark, but it intimidated me.

That was a long time ago.  Once I tried it (many projects ago), I used it often.

I recently found a new wax that has me totally smitten.  It's an antique wax that does not require clear wax first!
WOO HOO - less time, less money!

It transforms a piece immediately.

Antique wax can give the piece an old world feel.

It will provide a rich finish.
It will transform colors, adding depth.
Again, dark wax over black provides a rich finish.
I always use dark wax over red.  It tones down the color and highlights the detail.

I did this yesterday.  Antique wax directly on a stained table top.

Look at the rich, deep finish it provides.

It will also protect your paint or table top.

To clean a waxed finish, simply use a damp cloth.

Bottom line: don't fear the dark wax.  It's your friend and will completely transform your treasures.
