A Do Over

Good Morning!

One of the downfalls to having a booth in the antique mall is that my stuff can get beat up.  People drag things, move items around and sometimes leave items behind.  From time to time I will find candy wrappers in bowls, on top of tables and of course the floor.

I can pick up the candy wrappers.  However, when someone spills soda and leaves it on top of a finished table, not much I can do about it.

Really folks, people are that disrespectful.

Enough of my rant.

My first paint job was done in Annie Sloan’s Provence.

I sanded the soda syrup off and decided to dress it up in red.

I decided to go for the shabby look and rubbed back the red paint to let the blue/aqua come through.

I Can Sew!

Well, this old gal, learned a new hobby yesterday!  Yes, folks it is never too late to pick up a new trade.

Look what I made:

sewing 2 011

At the beginning of the year, one of my resolutions was to take a sewing class.  It has been my resolution for 10+ years!  This year, I signed up in January, only to have the class cancelled due to a school delay.

Fast forward to November when I attended NAWN’s Fashion Show.  In the silent auction was a 2-hour class in your home.  Yep, just me and the sewing lady.  Surely, I could learn how to sew with that attention.

Yesterday, Michelle came over and whipped me into shape.  She was amazing. She was patient, helpful and encouraging.  She may become my new BFF, I was so smitten with her!

I went to Hobby Lobby with the list Michelle gave me and gathered my materials.  Isn’t that fabric darling?

When Michelle arrived I was ready.  She walked me through every step – showing me what each knob and button did.  I even changed the needle.  She suggested changing the needle after 12 or so hours, I have had my machine since 2000 and have never changed the darn thing!

We measured.

Cut

Pinned.

It looks like Michelle is doing all the work.  Don’t be fooled, she would show me and then have me do the work!

sewing 013

Really, I did make this pillow!  Michelle just assisted!

How stinkin cute are those pom poms.  Not that easy, but so worth it!

I had to try it out on different chairs.

Ladies, I am so excited to get my sewing on!  I must say, this was the best way to learn for me.  I needed the one-on-one, hands on teaching.  She even left me a supply/tool list, an equation to calculate yardage and some helpful websites.

If you are local, Michelle teaches classes in the Clintonville area.  I am already planning to take a class and shop Sew-to-Speak.  She has a website, Baby Gee.

I am planning to get some more fabric and try it again, without Michelle.  She said, you can’t mess it up cause you can always rip out the stitch.  I say that to everyone who asks me about painting – you can always repaint!  It is a freeing approach to the creative process.

Whew, I get to cross off a new year’s resolution just in the nick of time!

We spent part of yesterday afternoon at Heritage Square Antique Mall.  We rearranged a bit and added more holiday décor along with some vintage goodies.

Let’s Get this Project Started!

Hi All,

If you follow along on FB, then you may have seen that I had not planned on putting out a post this morning.  I guess my lazy holiday weekend has been extended.

But that changed, as I removed my girls from my computer and was able to upload some photos.

Last week a client delivered a fabulous furniture set.  It has been dubbed – The Fancy Furniture.

We met just before Thanksgiving and she shared her vision with me.

The fabric is both her window treatment and bedding.  The paint chip shows the color she wants to paint the detailed areas of the furniture.  The white painted wood is a sample I share with clients that shows different finishes.  It all coordinates beautifully.

After my lazy weekend, I jumped on this right away.

Fancy Furniture 001

Yes, the first coat is always a little scary.

Fancy Furniture 003

This is after the second coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.  Much better.

Next came the highlights of green.  I used a small brush to carefully apply the green.  This photo is with the first coat only.

I asked the client to come back over after I completed one piece.  That way adjustments can be made if necessary.  I plan to finish this one up this week.

Progress is being made!

I am off to restock B-10 at Heritage Square Antique Mall today.  I’m excited to officially celebrate the season in my space!

Have a great day!

A Lazy Break

Welcome back!  I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday!  It’s a nice relaxing weekend, before the chaos of the holidays descend upon us.

We took relaxing to a whole new level.  Many would say we were lazy!  I enjoyed every minute of it!  I am not one to sit idle for too long, so I threw in a few uneventful projects.  But mainly I found things I could do while sitting my booty in front of the TV all day on Saturday.

Is it wrong that I enjoy College Football Saturday more than turkey day?

Well, I got my craft on, while watching many good games.  This allowed me to justify my position on the couch.

booth post armoire 011

First came the banner.  I pinned a great website that offers every letter for download.  You can find it here and make your own.

booth post armoire 028

You have seen the sheet music/book page wreaths and I made a few more JOY banners.  You can add a little sparkle any where!

Misc found 020

Sheet music, different sized punches, glitter and scrabble letters = MERRY CHRISTMAS banner.

Close up

Misc found 019

More glitter and sheet music = gift tags.

Pinterest has wonderful ideas for crafts and holiday decorating.  So as you’re getting in the Holiday spirit be sure to explore.  It’s a great lazy way to accomplish something.

My laziness has ended.  I have started on the huge furniture project, preparing my home for Christmas and shopping.  It’s so good to take a break every once in a while to rejuvenate the spirit!

Restyled Booth

Hello There!

I must share pictures of my space at Heritage Square Antique Mall.  I popped in yesterday to rework the booth and fill the gaping hole that the sold buffet left.  Instead, I stayed nearly 4 hours and could still bring more!

Thank you for shopping Vintage Restyled!  Thank you for supporting my little business and my passion for vintage, unique and restyled goodness!

Let me share some of these things with you.

Whew.  I had a great time reworking the space.  I will pop in again as needed with some more holiday goodness.  I am hoping people shop small businesses this Saturday! So, I want to be fully stocked.

With the holiday fast approaching and kids out of school tomorrow, this will be my last post this week.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
