No Sew Curtains

I have said it too many times…I can’t sew.

It has been an issue on many occasions.  In fact, I must shy away from many DIY projects that involve fabric and a machine.

When we moved into our home in August, the sewing issue once again popped up.  I hadn’t really considered curtains or window treatments for our home.  We did not need them for privacy and I was enjoying the nice wood trim and the view out the windows.  But daughter #1 needed them to block the morning sun.

I grabbed three plain white panels (can’t recall where) and she threw them up on the existing rods.

Isn’t that delightful?

That is how it’s looked since the end of August.  Momma has been focused elsewhere.  Poor thing.

I decided to do something about it.

I pulled the curtains down so they were flush with the carpet.  Using Duck Tape, I marked off the desired length.  I removed the curtain, laid it on the ground and pretended I could cut a straight line.

Then I used the greatest invention ever!

I folded the curtains to the desired length and used Heat n Bond.  All you need is an iron.

cutains 010

How cool is that?

I did three windows in about an hour, including my lazy attempt to iron the wrinkles.

The Heat n Bond was purchased for a few bucks from JoAnn’s.  It worked perfectly.  The imperfections are from my cutting, measuring and the very old and not level windows!

Stay warm on this Halloween!

Our Chickens

When I run into friends, blog friends or complete strangers that follow Vintage Restyled, they all ask about the chickens!  I haven’t shared an update in a while.

Chicks 007

I picked these little cuties up from the post office just 6 weeks ago.  They were 24 hours old.

There’s Hubby building the chicken coop.

We had a few nice days last week, so I opened the door and let them run wild.

At first only one came out.  She ran all over the yard. They are fast!

For their protection (and my sanity), we needed to build a run for them.  An area that is completely enclosed so no predators will get them.  Our dog is the biggest threat!

This is day 1.

Now they have a red door.

The area where we placed the coop and the run has a concrete base.  We cannot figure out what this area was, but not much was growing in the space when we bought the house.  It turned out to be a perfect spot for the chickens.  Predators will burrow, but not here because of the concrete.  Perfect!

Hubby was assisted by all the gals in the Gabor house.

Now when I am home, I can open the little door and they have a secure area to explore.

A little fact I found interesting: when building the run, you cannot use chicken wire.  I guess you can only use chicken wire on memo boards!  Actually, it’s too pliable and the rotten raccoons can bend the wire.  Who knew?

Boxes 001

We do love our chickens.  We hope to get a few eggs as soon as December.

Have a good Tuesday!

Thank You!

Wow-what a week!  It’s Monday again and I am still catching up from last week!

First, the BARN SALE was a lot of fun and a great success!  I moved pieces and smalls along, met blog followers and fellow DIY ladies. The weather was perfect on Thursday and I stayed busy from open til close. A big thanks to everyone who came out and helped spread the word.

This wonderful desk will be used by Kaity!

I am hopeful that people will send photos of their purchases as the restyle them or put them to good use.

I still have stuff!  I plan to restyle some of the unfinished goods and place others in my booth at Heritage Square Antique Mall.

But not this week!  I need a break.  I plan to slow down, wrap up a few things and maybe catch up on some much needed sleep.

To all my friends back in NY and the rest of the East Coast, we are thinking of you and are hoping for the best.

Have a good week and thanks again for your support of the first BARN SALE!

What is a BARN SALE?

A few folks have asked what a Barn Sale is.  Is it a garage sale?  Is it stuff from a barn?

Barn sale

Of course all sales are different.  I can tell you that our BARN SALE is not a garage sale.  I do not have used kitchen utensils, clothing or old sheets.  Instead, I am cleaning out my “work” supplies.  My finished furniture that needs a new home, items that won’t fit in my booth space (beds, large tables) and projects for you to complete.

I had a storage unit for over a year.  It was my dumping ground.  I would find glorious treasures that I swore I would get to.  Well, as stuff piled in there, I simply forgot what I had.  I am unloading those DIY projects.  The projects I simply cannot get to.

When we moved we had too much furniture and décor items.  We also had to change things up based on the size of our rooms.  We are moving those items along as well.

B-10 Update 004

I’ve been trying to be more selective on my smalls.  Space is limited in my booth and it can get cluttered quickly.  Therefore, I am offering many for sale.  Including some Christmas goodies, collectibles and craft items too.

prep for barn sale 007prep for barn sale 014

Pricing is always a question.  I am all over the board on this.  Some items are at thrift store prices.  Other items are reduced booth prices.  And lastly, the few newer finished pieces are at booth prices.  There is always room for discussion!

Cash is preferred, check is open for discussion and credit cards for purchases over $200.

Lastly, I had hoped to make it look cute inside the barn.  But that didn’t happen.  I have too much stuff and too little time.  You will just have to look beyond the straw, soccer goals and other crap stuff we store in there.

Hope you will come shop Thursday 4-8 and Friday 9-12.

For the love of Boxes

I had a sick daughter yesterday.  She has the crud but no other diagnosis, which means it needs to run its course.  It’s a busy week for me and nursing a sick kid didn’t start it off on the right foot!

Since we were home all day, I tried to get some stuff done for the barn sale.  I hope I can get it all together in time!  Yikes.

I was going through the barn and pricing items.  Only then did it occur to me that I love “boxes”.  “Boxes” is a loose term.

Boxes 002

See the extra long wood box?  It has a hinged lid.  So very cool.

Boxes 005

Vintage tool box.

Boxes 007

This great metal tool box would make a perfect jewelry organizer.

Boxes 010

Small, vintage suitcase.

Boxes 003

I came across this berry painted wood box.  Perfect for display.

Boxes 009

Small boxes are still the rage.  Horseshoes are now $5 and $8.

Boxes 006

Amazing worn basket with faded lettering.  Great toy basket or blanket storage.

I hope to get final preparations done today.  I can only hope.

Lots to Sell

Here we are again, starting another week.  I can’t believe we are heading toward November!  October is flying by.

Soccer for one daughter is over – whew.  Daughter #1 will finish next weekend.  It’s always nice to have a break from the crazy sports schedule, even if it’s a short one.

With the soccer tournament this past weekend, we only managed to complete a few items on our long TO DO list.  Since I am gearing up for the Barn Sale, I will share photos of what is making its way into the barn.  I hope you can make it to the sale!
