The Beast Transformed

Last week I picked up this huge Thomasville armoire.
Simply Vague 008
It has great detail, but we all knew paint would transform her.
I attempted to avoid this big project, but I know better than to think I can sell an unpainted item.  Besides, it didn’t have the look that Simply Vague was going for.  Or the look I like for that matter.
I spent several hours on Tuesday with Annie Sloan French Linen and my handy waxes.
the beast 009
The paint and dark wax give The Beast an old world look.  In fact, she would look great in my home!  But she is at Simply Vague and will be ready for opening day on Sunday, July 1.
I’m proud of the transformation – she took a while but now she is ready for a new home.

Yesterday I shared updates in B-20 at Heritage Square Antique Mall.  The poor space had been neglected for too long!

While I was at the mall, I also spent some time in B-10.

The Ugly Stepsister

I like being busy.  Unfortunately, I have surpassed busy and am overwhelmed.  It’s summer, I’m supposed to be hanging at the pool, sleeping in and throwing my schedule away.  Not so much.

Because I have been working toward the opening of Simply Vague on July 1, my other spaces at Heritage Square Antique Mall have been neglected.

They needed some love.

I spent most of my day rearranging, swapping out and then putting it all back together.

Here are a few shots of B-20.

breakfront 004

breakfront 005

Lots of rusty and crusty horseshoes.

breakfront 007

Great wreath made of sticks.

breakfront 008

You’ll find mirrors, lots of scales and sale items.

breakfront 009

If you missed out on the aqua doors, I have another one in B-20.

Vintage chandi is fabulous.  Lots of wood tennis racquets.

Beautiful sofa table - finished in a Restoration Hardware look.

Lots of great finds are now in place.  The poor stepsister has received some love.

Make a Statement

Happy Monday!

Hope you had a great weekend!  I’m going to gloss over ours – lets just say it didn’t go as planned!

A positive that came out of my disrupted weekend was I could get some stuff accomplished.  I’m not caught up by any means, but I am closer.

A piece I did complete is a statement piece.  The color came out perfectly.

Simply Vague 009

I had this dresser in storage.  It was in good shape, it was just dated.

red dresser 003

We stripped the top and painted the rest in Emperors Silk (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint).

When the paint is applied, it can be a bit frightening.  It is RED.

red dresser 005

After applying the clear wax, I started applying Annie Sloan Dark Wax.  The dark wax certainly tones it down and gives it a rich finish.

red dresser 018

I removed the brass hardware and gave it an oil rubbed bronze finish.  The stained top completes the makeover.

It has been delivered to Simply Vague and is available for sale July 1st!

PLEASE READ:

Thank you to the ladies who contacted me to purchase items that I featured on Friday!  Someone was interested in The Beast.

Opening Soon

Hi All,

I was contacted a few weeks ago and asked if I would like to sell my furniture at a new location.

I was intrigued.

A gal and her husband who have had space in multiple antique shops were taking the plunge and opening their very own place.  Andrea and Nate wanted to offer shoppers an experience when they came in.  They designed a shop featuring multiple vendors, but instead of everyone having their own area, we would all be mixed together throughout the store.

Brilliant.

Simply Vague 001

I brought in the bench and Andrea placed her pillows on it to dress it up and offer the shopper the complete look.

Many vendors are delivering products next week in preparation for opening day.  I hope to have pictures soon.

In the meantime, I am thrilled to be a part of this venture.  Vintage Restyled is the only furniture dealer, and I am pushing myself to offer a good mix of styles and colors.

A few of the items I have for sale include…

Simply Vague 004

Love the rustic pillars.  Can hold ferns, be placed in a corner to add height or have hooks attached and use as coat racks.

Simply Vague 002

Beautifully, authentic trunk – perfect coffee table.

Simply Vague 003

Nite Stand in Old White

Simply Vague 008

The Beast that will be painted by opening day.

dresser 017

This restyled dresser.  I held this baby back for the opening!

This beauty was pulled and will be available at the new location.

The aqua table and the matching bench shown above will both make their debut on July 1st.

Simply Vague features local artisans.  You can see the growing list here.  I’m really excited to be a part of this new concept!

Open 7 days a week, beginning July 1!

Before you ask, yes I still have B-10 & B-20 at Heritage Square Antique Mall.  But I have an announcement coming soon!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great weekend!

The Beast

A friend of a friend was moving and unloading furniture.  Because I can’t pass up a good deal (or a piece of furniture), I agreed to get the items.

I rented a 16 foot truck and made several trips around Columbus picking up and delivering load after load.  Just to make the whole experience more enjoyable, the temperature was a balmy 90.

It took 3 of us to load and unload The Beast.

Simply Vague 006

This Thomasville armoire weighs a ton and is solid all the way around.

The pine does nothing for me.  So I must paint her and give her a new life.

Ugh

The Beast will take some effort, but I think she will look great in a home either holding a tv or repurposed.  The detail is amazing.

So the debate continues…Old White or Distressed Gray?  Have an opinion?  Please share.  I am ordering paint today.

Simply Vague 008

We delivered it to my new location which opens July 1.  I plan to paint The Beast at the shop.  Details to come.

Provence Bench Complete

On Monday I shared a table redo.

cottage june 019

And I thought this darling table needed a mate.  So I scored this great bench and gave it the same treatment as the table – Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – Provence.

cottage june 012

This guy makes benches out of headboards.  I love the look!

IMG_2638[1]

With burlap pillows, the bench is complete!

I delivered both items yesterday.  I can’t wait to share my new adventure with you!  But I must leave you in suspense another day (or so).

Have a great Wednesday!

Latest Find

While at the lake I found a few treasures.  I plan to share photos once I get everything unpacked and put in place.

One item that is by far my fave is this basket.

lake scores 008

Isn’t she pretty?

lake scores 009

It says 57 on both sides.  It has metal reinforcements on the top and the basket itself.

cottage june 014

I am in love!

The seller told me it was a tobacco basket, but I can’t verify this.

The fancy script looks like H. Bros. to me, but when I search I come up with unrelated items.

So, if you know any details on my prized gem-please share.

For now I am holding on to her.  But it won’t be long before she ends up in a space!
