Work In Progress

All,

I wish I had my act together to WOW you today…sadly I don’t.

My day was so insane that if I told you just a bit, you would not believe me.  I will have to recap one day, but I can’t think about it anymore right now.

So instead of a fabulous furniture transformation, I only have snippets of my many half finished projects!

Oh, there are a few others at various stages of production.  But I think you get my point.

And while I am working hard to clear out the garage, I need to share my newest acquisition.

I can’t wait to get to this baby!

Have a great Wednesday!

Join the Tour

On Wednesday at 10:00 a group of ladies will meet at Heritage Square Antique Mall.  We plan to spend a few hours roaming the mall seeking treasures.  We will meet in the front and proceed from there.  If you are free – join us!

In preparation for the gathering, I needed to get in there and clean up/organize my spaces.

IMG_1059[1]

As I mentioned yesterday, I am moving all my stuff out of my garage!  You can see finished goods waiting for transport.

IMG_1045[1]

B-20 has been neglected.  I just couldn’t seem to get a “look”, so it ended up being a mess.

Today, I spent some time really giving it some love.

A distressed black secretary would be great in an entry/living room or as a nightstand.

Of course, I can’t go and just fix up one space.  Here is B-10.

This shabby mirror, may just return home with me!  I love it with the layers of paint.

Lots of side tables in white and dark grey.

IMG_1076[1]

This bamboo bench/ottoman is neutral enough to work in any décor.

IMG_1073[1]

This table has the best legs!  Old chippy paint, makes it fab!

I am so relieved to have my spaces cleaned up and put back together.  But I hope it doesn’t stay that way too long!  I’m anxious to sell some items to make room for the rest of my garage clean out mission!

A Message Board

Hi All,

We had a great weekend and hope you did too!

I woke early Sunday and decided to complete the million half-started projects in my garage.  I am tired of looking at these items.  Some have been in there for two days, while others have mocked me for months.

This week, I will move them all to the stores!  It’s in writing - I am committed.

So that means you will see several completed furniture transformations this week.

One small project that has been sitting far too long was a frame.

DSCN3086

I found this oversized frame and painted her in a beige/gray shade.  It’s a new color for me and turned out to be perfect for this piece.  Distressing and wax finished her off.

DSCN3092

We sell a lot of frames.  I always wonder what people do with them.  Instead of leaving this oversized frame empty, I filled her with chicken wire and created a message board.

DSCN3089

DSCN3085

Can you read the card?

DSCN3087

It’s a thank you card from Christy that makes me laugh every time I see it!

DSCN3090DSCN3086

It’s hard to see the color, but I can assure you, you will see it on many things.

This oversized frame would look great in a mudroom or over a desk.  And it’s useful!

Our True Selves

Hi All,

As I shared yesterday, when first time guests visit, we clean the house.  After that, we show our true selves.

I must show you a bit of our true selves.  In fact, the room even looked like this when our friends arrived.  I thought we agreed to shut the door, but Hubby threw open the door and let them parade in to the disaster zone!

I’m glad no one got hurt.

Brace yourselves, it is baaad!

And it only gets worse!

IMG_0990[1]

There’s a desk under there.

IMG_0989[1]

I’d like to say it’s organized chaos, but it isn’t.  It’s a dumping ground.

Now you know what I will be doing this weekend!

I hope to share the after shots next week!

News:

We got some exciting news here at The Gabor house…our oldest daughter made it to States in swimming again this year!  She will be swimming in the 200 yard Free Relay and also swimming fly in the Medley Relay.

This came as a complete shock to us!  We thought swimming ended on Monday, so I was planning fun things for the next few weeks, since that would free up 5 nights a week for her to fill her time.  But, it’s all good.

She will swim on March 10 & 11 at BGSU.

A Feature:

I am thrilled that my Dresser turned Media Console was featured again!

It’s Good to have Guests

Our dear friends from the lake ventured to Columbus to hang out during our 5 day weekend.  We have spent the summers together for the last few years and this was their first journey to Buckeye town.  Two adults and 4 kids.

A self imposed rule that I established long ago is to clean the house for first time guests.  After that, they can see how we really live!

This was their first time. So, I got busy cleaning, redecorating and attempted a little organizing.

Guest room complete 006

This is our guest room.  We completely overhauled this room and all the furniture in August when we had guests.  You can see the process here.

Our playroom, turned den was completed last year as well.

You can read about the makeover here.

The guest bath received a coat of paint, a framed mirror, crown and some minor tweaks.

Guest bathroom 002

So that leaves the girls rooms and their jill and jill bathroom that we also updated last year.

That brings us to the first floor.

New iphone 045

I will share that in another post!  Lots of indecision in this room.

Cleaning:

As you can see from the above photo, we have white woodwork.  Yep, it shows everything!

Since I am always looking for a magical solution to cleaning, I will share my newest attempt to never clean again.  Well, at least not my baseboards.

After you vacuum and clean your floors, wipe down your baseboards with whatever cleaning solution you use.  Let dry.

Then, wipe the clean baseboards with a dryer sheet.

This should deter dust.

Well, I did this on Saturday morning, so I will have to let you know how it goes.  The reviews were great.

Perhaps, this nifty trick that I got on Pinterest will let me avoid the baseboards for a while!

Have you tried this?  Does it work?

Enjoy your Thursday!

Ready for some Spring Color

Hi All,

I just got the girls back to school after a 5-day break.  I’m ready to start restyling some treasures that are cluttering my garage!  Let’s get started…

Like most of you, we have had a mild winter.  Perhaps that is why I am getting the spring fever early.

So when my mother-in-law popped over with this little goodie, I had to break out the aqua/turquoise.

Iphone 066

Iphone 067

This baby was in rough shape.  It needed lots of wood filler.

But it has gorgeous detail, I just could not pass her up.

Using a latex oops paint – yes people latex – it’s hard to remember life before chalk paint, but latex still has its place.

A bright turquoise was my color of choice.

A custom made glaze really brings out the details.

It’s a strong pop of color and would look great in any room.

Between my media console and this side table, you can tell what my spring color will be!

Have a great day!

Featured

I know, I know -  I am on a mini vaca, well – taking a short break is more like it, while the kids are off school.

Anyway, I am popping in to say that I’ve been featured!

A Client Mirror

I often receive emails asking questions about painting and specifically about chalk paint.  While I am not in a position to give advice on painting techniques, I freely share my experiences – both good and bad.  That is how this client project came about.

She had a mirror she was looking to have painted.  She is getting ready to list her house and painting this baby was not her first priority, yet it needed to be done.

I know you have seen these before.  This one is in a maple finish.

Not anymore!  She has been transformed.

Mirrors are by far the hardest thing to photograph!

The distressing was achieved with dark wax.  Though it has an old world feel, it is definitely a modern and current piece.

I hope she likes it!  She did select the colors and she saw a sample when she dropped off the mirror on Sunday.  She will be here today to pick it up.

Hubby and I enjoyed meeting her.  She certainly knows her furniture, likes antiques and likes them even more when they are painted!  Just my kind of gal!

NOTE:

The girls have a 5-day weekend and we are having friends in for a few days.  We will then swim regionals and have 3 birthday parties.  Needless to say, I will be MIA for a few days.

So I am signing off for the weekend.  Hope you all have a great one!
