A Different Dresser

Hi Everyone!
Hope you enjoyed the weekend and the extra hour!  We now have an 11 year old!  She likes to stretch her birthday out as long as possible, so our weekend was spent fulfilling her desires.  I did manage to finish up a few projects in between parties.
Since I have been shopping my storage garage, I dragged this beat up baby home.
DRESSERS 006
She looked abused in her previous life.  All the drawers were warped, veneer was peeling off and missing.  A mess.
DRESSERS 008
Using a heat gun, we removed the chipped veneer from the side.
Look at the top of this gal.
DRESSERS 008
We assume someone used this as a work bench at some point.  You can see saw marks on the edge.
Rather than fight the flaws, I embraced them.  It had so much character, I hated to try and hide it under paint.  So here is what I came up with.
DRESSERS 009
I dry brushed the front and the sides with ASCP Old White.  You can really see the detail on the front.
DRESSERS 010
I did the same on both sides, but the side without the veneer was too light.  Using a sponge brush, I applied a dark stain over the paint.
Hubby replaced the bottoms of all the drawers!  They slide and smell so much better!
This post is titled a different dresser because the finish is unique for us.

The original hardware was used and here she sits in our foyer.
We waxed the top and kept all her imperfections.

We shall see where she lands.
My computer has a terrible virus and is going in for repairs.  I will be back when I can with before and afters.  Not a good way to start the week.

I love it! Isn't nice to just embrace the imperfections and not fight them. I think you made the perfect choice in what to do with this one. :)
