Gate Leg Table Complete

Hi All,
Hope you had a great weekend!  They always seem to go by so fast, especially with 3 soccer games and kids activities!  I did manage to squeeze in some painting.  One for a client, one for the store and the one I am excited to share today!
My brother-in-law scored this Gate Leg table for me at auction.

It was begging for a makeover.  tables and tara 011
Hubby busted out the blow torch and stripped the many layers of paint away.  You can learn this technique here.

The Black Walnut Wood is just beautiful.  So, once stripped, I sanded and stained the top.

What to do with the legs?
Despite the effort to remove all the paint and salvage the legs, I opted to paint them.  I know, I heard you gasp, but the legs were not stain worthy and for me it was too much wood.

The legs were finished in a handmade paint color.  I will share details in another post.  It is a dark gray.  I refrained from beating up the legs and just lightly distressed them with a sanding block in key areas.
Let’s have another look.

This is such a wonderful table.  It offers many options (one side down, both up or down), so it can be used as a sofa table, in a foyer, a dining table, a desk…you get the picture!
I hope you like it as much as I do.
XO-
Shannon

Such a beautiful piece. I really like the stained top and grey on bottom. I'll have to stay turned to find out the "formula" for the grey. I love drop down tables especially in my smaller home. If you would, I'd love it if you'd post on my 1st Sunday's Best Party. I'm a graduate of Debbie's Newbie Party. You need to share!

That looks great! I especially love how the wood finished up - I don't blame you one bit for painting the legs. They look great like that.

Hi Shannon, what an excellent job you did with the table. My son loves auctions and picks up many fabulous items. Too bad he lives so far away from me - I could scrounge a few things from him, LOL I'm visiting and following you from Debbie's Newbie Party. I hope to come back often and hope you will come on over and follow me. I could use a few friends, LOL Hugs, Chris

Hello Shannon,
Glad I found your blog. I love gate leg tables and "restyling" and repurposing vintage items. I recently reworked a vintage table from my father's estate which is currently taken up residence in my kitchen. Anyway, keep up the good work and I'll be stopping back again I'm sure to see some of your new restyled projects!
