Painting A Non-Wood Surface

The weekend can not arrive soon enough!  We have had a rough week.  Our youngest has had a stomach virus since Saturday night.  Some days she feels better and we try to do a few things and the next thing you know, she is curled up in a ball.

Needless to say, my plans for a productive and fun week before school started, were curtailed.  And no one is more disappointed than my soon-to-be 4th grader.

Since I have been homebound for a while, I snuck in a quick paint job.

I picked up this ugly, non-wood shelving unit for $2. I am sure I had a plan when I grabbed it.

As you know, I am a HUGE fan of Chalk Paint.  I try to stress the benefits in my posts as I work each project - another benefit of Chalk Paint is that it paints right on non-wood surfaces.  I’ve had success painting laminate, particle board and now this unknown surface.

The difference between painting real wood and other surfaces (that I have found) is that real wood absorbs the paint better.  The paint almost sits on this surface.  But it works, so on the paint went.

I may use it as a night stand in my room.  It may go in my craft room.  It may end up in the store.

Whatever purpose it serves, it is much better in white!

Have a great weekend and start to your week.  I hope to get my little one better and off to school on Tuesday, and attack some projects!

Until then-

XO-

Shannon

What kind of chalk paint do you use? (You probably mentioned it but I have a short memory!)

Hope the little one is better soon!!

I does look much better in white and you can't even tell it's non-wood anymore.

Wow, looks incredible. I am following your advice and trying chalk on some of my laminate pieces. What kind of brush or roller have you had the most luck with?

I often glance right over any non-wood surface furniture when thrift shopping, but this post will have me reconsidering. Chalk paint seems like a miracle paint!
