Indecision - HELP

Indecision has been this week’s theme.  Not sure what is going on, but I am faced with another decision and I cannot seem to draw a conclusion.

This is where you chime in.

I have two darling end tables/night stands that were my husband’s grandparents.  We were fortunate to acquire these and placed them in the guest room.  With the guest room makeover underway, we decided to paint them.  We did call Hubby’s mom first to make sure she was okay with that.

Here is the original:
Guest room 011
As you can see, I am back in my foyer, painting on a beach towel.

Anyway, I busted out the ASCP in Old White and gave her two coats.  Slightly distressed it in key spots – are you sick of my method yet?

You can clearly see the difference the second coat makes.  One on left has one coat.

Now here she is:

She has sweet, little glass knobs.

So what’s the problem?

Do I paint the two shelves that I cannot fit a brush into or leave the original wood?

If you choose paint, I would use an edger and perhaps my 10 year olds’ hand to paint.  So do not let that be your deciding factor.

Okay, never commented before?  It’s easy, double click the vintage restyled button at the top of this post.  That will take you to the blog site.  Scroll down to the bottom of this post and there is a comment area.  That’s it.  Simple.

Thanks in advance for your input.  I am ready to be done with this project!

XO-
Shannon

Hi Shannon,
First... you don't NEED to paint inside, but if you do (now, don't laugh), I've found that a wooden spoon or similar item, duct-taped to a paint brush handle securely, makes for a great extension when reaching in tight spaces. You just won't be able to sand/distress in there. You could also consider just a nice heavy craft paper or vinyl in a coordinating pattern or color and cut it to size, just trace that lovely curve in front. That way, it would dress the shelves up AND be easy to pull out to change or clean. What are the colors/patterns of the room?
If you AREN'T painting inside at all, a nice open lace on the shelves would bring the color (peeking through) from the shelves together with the wood inside sides/top and your lovely ASCP exterior. I found this discontinued item: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat3081&PRODID=prd15029 but I'm sure there are similar things out there. Real lace would work too, but slip around. You might find vinyl lace placemats or tablecloths around... Hm. When do the guests arrive?

definitely!

I like it unpainted! It gives it a 'stained top' look. I'd leave it, plus it's a lot easier that way, double bonus :)

The last photo makes it look unfinished but it might not look so from the front angle. Does that make sense?

Yes,paint the shelves. Not so hard if you use a skinny roller to get in there. If they are left unpainted those dark shelves will be the first thing you notice. They will just jump right out at you making it look like you ran out of paint. IMO
