Eye Candy

Hi All,

We still have house guests, so not a whole lotta painting goin’ on.  Our friends are from NY (just north of the city) and it’s a good thing they are here, because their house is still without power.  Fortunately, no damage was done to their home.

Anyway, we have been squeezing in a bit of shopping when we can.  We found some beauties.  But in true thrifty fashion, I just shop, get inspiration and then fantasize that they will magically appear in my home (via a thrift store or auction and a whole lot of work).

Everything…the table, accessories, the whole store!

They’re into cloches too.  Copycats!

What you cannot see are the wheels on this coffee table.  Still love these, though you have seen them a lot.

Here’s one.

I know these are everywhere, but I just love them.  This one is $600+.  I have one in my home that did not cost near that amount!

Can you tell this is a desk designed to look like a trunk?  Amazing.

Love the color and the distressing.

Pottery Barn has some inspiration for Fall.

Enjoy this bit of eye candy.  Perhaps you will be inspired to seek and find some yourself.

Guest Room Bed

We bought this bed unfinished in 1995.  We stained it and applied a heavy dose of poly.

We used it for 11 years as our bed and then it moved to the guest room when we switched to a king.

Guest room 008

Our lovely dog loves to hang out in the guest room because the bed is level with the windows and she can see right out.  Little did we know she was chewing on the bed finial.

Pieces of Bed 001

I went to Home Depot and purchased new deck post finials ($3.50 each).

Guest room 008

They look like it too!  Hubby was not a fan.

Not so bad once it had some ASCP in Old White.

Pieces of Bed 012

The bed received two coats of paint, clear wax and distressing.

Big difference.  Just love it!
I know the bedding needs love – I sprayed it and pulled the wrinkles AFTER taking these photos.  As I mentioned, this room was finished in the nick of time!  Don’t judge.

Pieces and Parts – Guest Room

I have a vision.  I have not written it down, drawn anything, made a list or anything productive.  I just have a vision for my guest room.

I didn’t have much to work with.  The guest room was a place we walked passed.

It started with this wall color:

Guest room 006

Recognize the night stands?

The wall color was dark and cave like.  It was also a catchall room.  It had the basics, but nothing special.

Guest room 003

We started to remove things and prep the walls for paint, so excuse the mess.

Hubby was on wall paint duty.  If you have been around this blog at all, you may recall that I jacked up the bathroom wall paint and it resulted in adding crown molding.  Yeah, it was bad!

After much debate and time with the paint swatches

Guest room 013

I went with my original color – Benjamin Moore – Gray Owl.

Now we have to get the other parts complete.

Night stands - DONE

Bed – DONE (look at the dust pile!  Lotta sanding!)

Dresser – DONE…I cannot wait to show you this!  But for now, just a tease.

Mirror – DONE…picture is in progress.

Bedding and curtains have been purchased.

Friends arrive at 6:00.  How I will pull this off is a mystery!

Over it!

In the last three days I have painted more spindles than I can count.  I officially despite spindles!

Not spindles, but close enough.

I am over these things!  Guest arrive in less than 18 hours and I have one coat of paint on the bed.  Needs another coat, distressing and a good waxing.  Then of course it all needs to be put back together.

My dear friend for 35+ years is driving 10 hours to relax and enjoy and I may offer her a good comfy couch.  Or, after I pull an all-nighter (gosh it’s been a long time) to finish this bed, I may be sleeping in it when she arrives!

Hope to have a breakdown of all the pieces and parts of the guest room shortly!

Until then,

Poor Little Table

This baby was left for dead.  It was discolored, missing pieces and wobbly.

shelves 003

Hubby tightened its parts with glue and clamps and then I attacked it with paint.

It has beautiful detail.

Guest room 007

You can see that I began to distress this baby, after a coat of clear wax.

To highlight the detail, I used AS Dark Wax mixed with a bit of clear.

Guest room 012

Guest room 014

I beat her up quite a bit.

Guest room 015

But I love her detail, so I needed to exploit it.
