New Site

Hello All,

I know I said I would not post until Monday, and that is still true (in a way).

We are attempting to take our followers with us, import posts and get this baby up and running.  So...this is really a test and not a true post.

Have a great weekend!

Vintage Restyled is born!

Hi All,

I am new to blogger and am happy to be here!  While I am new to the format, I am a blogger!  I have a blog, theothergaborsister.wordpress.com, that was started in mid-October 2010.  I have loved entering this new world and have enjoyed the blogging experience.

WHY BLOGGER?
As I mentioned, I have a blog on wordpress.  While wordpress has a lot to offer the computer savvy blogger, it is not that user friendly for a computer illiterate, blogging newbie.  All the blogs I follow offer great advice and tips, yet they do not apply to wordpress.  Also, the backgrounds and picture options are quite limited.

WHY NOW?
Tomorrow, February 3, 2011, I will open a booth in an antique mall.  After much thought, Vintage Restyled was selected as the name of this new business.  For simplicity purposes and streamlining the marketing, I have decided to use one name for everything.  For this blog.  For the retail space.  For all things down the road.

STAY TUNED:
This transition will take me a while.  I know blogger does not allow you to import from wordpress, so I am working on the best way to transfer information.  I hope it is not manually!
And as I mentioned, I am opening tomorrow, weather permittting!  So this will take much time and attention over the next few days.

PLEASE FOLLOW:
If I do nothing else within the next 24 hours, I will have a spot to follow this blog.  What that means is you receive email updates when I post on the blog.  It is simple and worth it!  All the blogs I follow I do so by email.  Let's face it, we all have the best intentions to seek something out, but by following, you do not need to think about it!

Thanks for your support!

Featured Technique

Good morning!

I recently shared with you a chair makeover in a french inspired paint finish.  Based on the feedback, which I sooo appreciate, I completed some other pieces.

It isn't necessary to prime first, but I wasn't sure which direction I was heading with this table.  So, the legs got primed.

With it's first coat.

Over the blue went gray, then a light sanding and a stain.

I sanded the top and stained it with dark walnut.  I will put a wax finish on top, then it's out the door!

But it is NOT going to the store!

This coming week is Spring Break!  I will be taking a break too.  When I return in April, I have MANY, MANY exciting things to share!

1) I will look different

2) I will share exactly where this table and many other pieces are going!

Thanks for following along!  Have a great week.

A French Chair

Hi All, Since many of you are new to Vintage Restyled, I thought I would share a project that I featured on my old blog, Theothergaborsister.wordpress.com.  I love this technique and have used it several times since this post.  Without further chat...

I got this chair at an auction.  It had no seat, but Hubby made me a wood one.

Following a technique that Miss Mustard Seed has perfected, I painted the whole chair with a funky blue.  It was an oops paint from HD.

I did not sand or prime it, just painted.  Next, using 80 grit sandpaper, I roughed it up a bit.

Then came a gray paint - another oops color.

I have to say, I was liking it at this stage. But, I sanded even more.  I was going for the distressed look.

and

To tie it all together, I applied a stain to the entire chair, wiping it off with a paper towel as I went.

For the seat, I used 3 inch thick foam, covered in Duck cloth.

The cushion is so comfortable!

I hope you like it, as much as I do!  I believe this is a keeper for now!

Tell me what you think about this new technique.

Thanks for stopping!
